Spiced Elderberry Tea Recipe

Deep in flavor, this elderberry tea with traditional warm spices makes a heartier herbal tea. As it’s not cut with any other main ingredients, this tea brews a dark elderberry tea packed with elderberry benefits and flavor. Warm spices make for a nicely-balanced blend that enhances the earthy elderberry flavor.

Spiced Elderberry Tea Mix

ingredients:

  • 1 ½ Cups dried elderberry
  • 2 Tablespoons chopped cinnamon pieces (optional—Korintje cinnamon recommended; ground is okay)
  • 1 Tablespoon cardamom seed (decorticated; benefits from light crushing with mortar and pestle; ground also okay)
  • 4 teaspoons whole cloves
  • 2 Tablespoons star anise, crushed
  • 1 teaspoon whole allspice, crushed
  • 1 teaspoon dried ginger pieces

  2. Lightly crush cardamom seeds using a mortar and pestle, if desired. Add to cinnamon in mixing bowl.
  3. Measure whole cloves and add directly to ingredients in bowl.
  4. Using hands or a mortar and pestle, crush star anise into small pieces and add to ingredients.
  5. Crush whole allspice with mortar and pestle. Add to ingredients in bowl.
  6. Measure dried ginger pieces into bowl.
  7. Add dried elderberry to ingredients.
  8. Stir though to combine.
  9. Transfer to one-quart glass jar or other sealed container. Seal tightly with tight-fitting lid to store.
  10. Use about one teaspoon of blend to eight ounces per cup of water to prepare.
